Start of a New Year

When we got back from San Diego, we still had some time before school started up again. This gave the kids a chance to play together more. There was lots of dressing up...

... and fun make-believe games.

We also continued to have some good weather, so park days continued to happen. Look at them holding hands! That was all them. It completely melted my mommy heart.

And then, because this is Colorado, the weather turned on a dime, and we got a bunch of snow. It was our first snow day off from school, I believe. We had been wanting to take the kids sledding for awhile, so we finally bit the bullet and did it. We found a local golf course that allows people to sled on snow days. It was perfect! Though I will say the trudge through the course to the hill was not so fun, especially with me being pregnant.

At the top, I made sure to get a picture of me with each kiddo.

Aubrey had an absolute blast sledding. She would have stayed forever if we'd let her. She never seemed to tire or feel the cold or anything!

Carter, on the other hand, only loved his first time down the hill, which I filmed. Here it is.

Unfortunately, right at the end, he got a ton of snow in his face. He was NOT a fan. And then after that, he utterly refused to go down the mountain. Though there was the time we put him on the sled by himself and just pushed... He turned around on the sled so that he was lying on his stomach and his face was looking back up the hill toward us. He reached his hands out toward me and just cried, "Mommy! Mommy!" the whole way down. It was both sad and completely hilarious.

Anyway, Carter found that he preferred to throw snow balls to this dog, who enjoyed catching them in his mouth. It works, I guess.

When we finally decided to go home, Aubrey dragged her feet. Carter and Daddy got to the car pretty quickly, but Aubrey... well, she did this instead.

And what do you need after a day in the snow? Hot chocolate, of course! Carter is a big fan.

After school started back up for real, Carter and I continued our tradition of going on little dates together. Daniel got a TON of Starbucks gift cards for Christmas, so we often went there for a free treat.

When Daddy got home from work each day, Carter was always so cutely excited to see him. Here he is giving Daddy snuggles. Loooooove.

In fact, both kids enjoyed getting Daddy snuggles. Carter even fell asleep one time! Haha.

At Aubrey's school that year, everyone took turns taking Clifford, the class pet, home for a week. Aubrey was so excited when it was finally her turn! She gave him a bath...

... introduced him to Carter...

... and played dress-up with him.

This was also Valentine's season, so she had Clifford help her make all the Valentine's cards for her classmates.

Speaking of love, or whatever, Daniel and I fell in love anew... with this little beauty.

We bought her from Hertz, so she was a former rental. And she was in great shape! Daniel named her Vanna White (and then named his car Pat Sajak, because obviously). We weren't really too sad to say goodbye to our old car, though it did serve us well.

No buyer's remorse! We still love our van. :)

One of the first places we took it was to the indoor pool, where Aubrey worked on her swimming skills...

... and Carter did his favorite pool pastime, which is running into the water from the zero-depth entry.

Then, as has become our February tradition, Grandma and Grandpa came to visit for Grandpa's birthday and some skiing. We took him to Maggiano's for his birthday dinner, and both of the kids insisted he hold them while we waited for our table.

And then they took turns giving him kisses!

While they were here, we went to a lot of restaurants, of course. And Daniel got this awesome shot of Carter with his chocolate milk at Castle Cafe.

One of the times we went to dinner--in fact, the only time we got a babysitter and went without the kids--we got stuck in an awful snow storm. The poor van isn't a 4-wheel drive, and we really struggled. There were times we got stuck and didn't think we'd get out. We used our flashers a lot, and we were glad it was Daniel driving, haha. This photo really doesn't do it justice.

Suffice it to say, it took us two hours (or maybe more) to drive what normally takes 20 minutes. Yep.

Right before Grandma and Grandpa caught their flight back home, we went out to eat one last time. And Grandpa got these cute shots.

Then Grandma and Grandpa were gone, and we were sad. But while they were here, Grandma bought Aubrey some temporary pink and blue hair dyes, and she was super excited to use them for school.

Carter also experimented with a new look... hehe.

And I made a thing. It's a spring wreath for our door. I was fairly proud of it and put it up right away, even though it was only March. I was hopeful for Spring!

It was false hope.

The wind was crazy during this particular storm, so the snow was piled into high drifts. We opted not to go sledding because of this. It was fine though, because the kids had a blast just playing in the back yard.

Both kids loved being thrown in the drift piles.

And then they tried to defeat Daddy in a snow ball fight, but he had good fortifications (and a way better throwing arm).

Carter never lasts as long in the snow as Aubrey does, so he and I went inside while Aubrey built a cute, little snowman with Daddy.

We were hoping (or at least I was) that that would be last snowfall of the season. I figured it wouldn't be, but a girl can dream, right? I had no idea just how much more snow we would get that "spring"...
