Even though the first official day of Fall is in September, I'm starting this Fall post in October. That's when it really starts to feel like Fall to me, perhaps because that's when we start doing all the holiday decorating--first Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and finally Christmas.
Anyway, on the first Monday in October, we did a Halloween decorating Family Home Evening. The kids decided to dress up, of course.
And we really only had one surface to decorate, so this is it.
For our treat, we had pumpkin sheet cake. And the whole time we listened to the Thriller album. Carter definitely got into it.
The weather actually remained very nice for most of October. We actually took a trip to the zoo one day.
The kids even thought it was hot enough afterwards to run through the sprinkler!
The first weekend in October brought General Conference, and this time we encouraged Aubrey to draw photos of the speakers. It didn't last all the way through, but she did draw this cute one of Elder Eyring.
She also drew this picture of... someone... who said the word "choose." I like her spelling of it.
Since moving to Colorado, we've driven to Karen and Colt's house in Utah for every Fall break, which is in October. And both times I failed at getting photos. I did get some of the kids in the car.
And I got one of Aubrey after Aunt Karen did her hair.
And that's it. *sigh*
When we got back from Utah, Nana had new Halloween PJs for the kids! This got Aubrey into the Halloween spirit, of course.
The other big thing we did in October (and I'm realizing this whole post is just about October, but whatever) was visit a local farm for some Fall-related fun. The place had several pools (for lack of a better term) filled with corn kernels. The kids played there for a LONG time.
Mommy and Daddy even joined them!
This was actually the best family photo we got in there. Truly.
Once we dragged the kids from the corn kernel pools, we got a chance to see some cute animals.
The kids even got to ride ponies!
I think Carter's face here is hilarious...
Aubrey was a natural!
By far the coolest thing about the farm, however, was the huge slide. Here's Aubrey going down!
And here are Mommy and Carter. I can't get over the laughing... so cute!
As hard as it was to stop sliding, we also took a tractor ride...
... and took advantage of some photo ops.
And because they were right by the entrance/exit, the corn kernel pools just had to be visited one more time. I call this shot "Children of the Corn." Weirdos.
After the farm, there was still some time before Halloween really got into full swing. So we did normal, everyday stuff. Not so normal, however, was the time Carter fell asleep on my bed while watching a movie with Aubrey. Hehe.
Then there were all the games the kids came up with in the evenings. They're so creative...
Then it was finally all about Halloween. I even had the kids do a Halloween craft!
And, of course, there was the church trunk-or-treat party. This was the only photo I got of them there.
Our neighborhood also did a trunk-or-treat event, complete with face painting and a bouncy house thing.
Aubrey ran into a friend from preschool there, and they were so cute going down the slide together over and over again.
Carter also enjoyed himself.
A few days before Halloween, so our jack-o-lanterns would be fresh for the day itself, we carved our pumpkins. Aubrey drew her design idea on a sheet of paper, and Daniel helped her carve it.
Then she painted it, because she's Aubrey. She's all about the art.
I did Harry Potter (or tried to), Daniel did the vampire, and Aubrey's is obviously on the right.
Here they are all lit up!
Aubrey's school did a Halloween party sometime in the week before the day...
... and even Mommy got into it and went out with some friends from church. Amazing! (I'm on the far left in the orange, naturally.)
Finally, when the big day came, it snowed. Because Colorado.
But it didn't stick on the streets, and we bundled the kids up to go trick-or-treating. If you can't tell from the low-quality photo, Carter is a fire fighter and Aubrey is Merida from the movie Brave. They didn't last super long because of the cold, which was fine by us!
It was an eventful month, as you can see.
