Colorado/Utah Trip

Wow, I'm way behind on blogging... this trip happened more than two months ago! But there are so many cute photos and videos that I can't not share them, even if they're now old news.

So. In February, we took a trip to Colorado. Weather issues in Chicago resulted in our flight being rerouted to... some city I can't remember the name of now, where we waited for hours. Then we flew to another unmemorable city and waited there for a few hours. Finally, we boarded a plane to Denver and arrived way later than anticipated. It was less than fun, but Aubrey was a trooper. Her pregnant mommy on the other hand...

Anyway, as a result of our very delayed arrival, our Valentine's Day plan to decorate the cookies Nana made had to be postponed until the next day. But when the time did finally come, Aubrey knew what to do.

She decided to be the official taste tester while the rest of us did the actual decorating. Smart girl.

She gave her hearty approval...

... and let nothing go to waste.

Also, on a totally unrelated note, she looks like toddler me in this photo:

Moving on.

For Aubrey, the best part of the trip was spending every possible moment with her cousin Emma. They played the piano together...

... and made everyone in the mall swoon from their adorableness.

They also took a train ride with Papa, and Aubrey couldn't wait to open the doors and get on.

She did also take some time to hang out with boring Mom and Dad, but only when it came to important things like carousels...

... and Mommy-forced selfies.

But mostly it was all about cousin Emma.

They read books together...

... and enjoyed the wonderful weather in Nana's and Papa's backyard.

We also fit in a trip to the zoo! Aubrey loved the lions, especially the cubs.

And she got to spend time with Gran-nana, who flew in from California.

When she was tired, Aubrey got rides from Papa...

... and even Emma!

And by the time we left the zoo parking lot, she was out.

After all of their adventures, cousin baths were a necessity--along with bubbles and rubber duckies, of course.

I don't have anything to say about this next photo except, "D'awwww!"

When it was time to say goodbye, the cousins hugged it out. It broke my heart a little.

And, of course, they fell over. 'Cause kids.

From Colorado, Aubrey and I hopped over to Utah to surprise my dad for his 60th birthday. We lugged all of our bags and Aubrey's ginormous car seat (SO MUCH STUFF FOR KIDS!) through the SLC airport to the car rental place and drove to our rental home for the weekend, where we were waiting inside with a balloon when he arrived after a long day of skiing. His open-mouthed shock was worth all of the effort!

For Aubrey, this leg of the trip promised not only seven crazy, fun boy cousins but also a BABY cousin that she could hold! She was beside herself with excitement over baby Bennett, and she was very concerned whenever he cried.

On the Sunday after my Dad's birthday, we made a ridiculously large meal and spent the evening with his three older sisters. Maren asked me to take some photos of them visiting, which was a very good idea. I guess that's why she's the oldest. ;)

While in Utah, we of course had to take the opportunity to visit Provo. We were lucky enough to be there during the open house for the new temple, which is beautiful, and we got this lovely shot of the family (minus Asher, who had wandered off without anyone noticing until we saw this photo).

A "quick" visit to the BYU bookstore turned into hours, so Aubrey and her cousins found ways to entertain themselves. (Excuse my poor-quality pictures... these kids don't exactly stand still.)

Aubrey probably would have been fine just playing with the drinking fountain the whole time, especially with Oliver as her companion!

We also took the opportunity to visit my paternal grandparents' graves in Provo. Aubrey didn't understand, of course, but it was still cool to have her there with me and my Dad--three generations of Mangums together visiting a fourth generation.

The night before we went home, Aubrey recorded this cute video for Daniel. I had to include it.

And finally, when it was time to go, my wonderful mother accompanied me and Aubrey on our flight home. This was especially good because our flight got cancelled due to weather (again, Chicago?!), so we had to deal with waiting in long lines and getting new flights. Also, the airport people forgot to put Aubrey's stroller on our flight (I left it in the right place!), probably because the flight was nearly empty, and I think we were the only ones to check something at the gate.
